Long-Term Care

Wisconsin is facing a serious shortage of qualified caretakers to work in nursing homes and other long-term care settings such as in-home health care and assisted living. • A report by Forward Analytics projects that Wisconsin will need roughly 10,000 more elder care workers over the next decade to meet the needs of the state’s aging population. That includes nurses, CNAs and in-home aides. (Forward Analytics)
  • A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel analysis in May found that at least three in five nursing homes in Wisconsin did not have enough health care workers to meet new federal staffing requirements that are being phased in. (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
  • This report from the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation found that, as of May, only about one in five nursing facilities nationwide met the full federal staffing requirements that are being rolled out. (Kaiser Family Foundation)
